Sunrise For Muriel
is the second song that Monica gave to me. It was the very next morning at the Bed & Breakfast, after that
amazing day when it all began at the Listening Workshop at Spring Farm. Sleeping lightly at about 5:30 A.M.
I was awakened with a sudden set of chords in my head: "B Flat Major 7, F, then E Flat Major 7, and
perhaps C". I knew it must be Monica! I was not sure about the "C", but before the feeling and the
memory should slip away, I forced myself to get up and quickly wrote it down. As I got up, the name
"Muriel" literally popped into my head, almost as if it was shouted. There was no person in my life
with the name Muriel. Quite honestly, I wasn't even sure if Muriel was an actual name. Either way,
now fully awake and afraid I would wake my sleeping wife, I decided that I would go out and take a
walk in the morning sun. I was immediately hit with the phrase "Sunrise for Muriel" which I wrote
down as well. As I walked down that country road, I kept hearing the name Muriel echoing
in my mind.
A
few hours later, Jac and I arrived at Spring Farm for the day's Workshop
activities. Jac immediately told Dawn the story. As I arrived on the scene
they were discussing exactly just who this person named Muriel actually
was!!! As silly as it sounds, given the changes that I had already been
through at Spring Farm during this and the previous two Workshops etc.,
this was actually the final turning point for me. For the vast majority
of us, as we discover that telepathy is real, and that we can really communicate
with animals and other beings in this way, we rely very heavily on what
Dawn refers to as "validation". Having someone else confirm "what you
think you heard" telepathically is perhaps the best way to overcome your
doubt in what is ultimately a natural ability. Monica (or somebody) was
literally shouting "Muriel" to me that morning, and there was no doubt
at all about that fact. I know that I heard this in my mind, as well as
the chords and the name of the song. However, the "rational me" could
still very easily insist that I was just making it all up, with the "Muriel"
thing just being some foolishness buried in my mind for which I had no
direct memory. However, the "rational me" was a bit overwhelmed to find
out there was an actual Muriel!
As it turns out, Muriel is not really the person's given name, but Monica has been telling Dawn and many others about "Muriel" for years. Muriel is Monica's "pet name" for her and she is the Afghan breeder who raised Monica as a puppy. They spent several years of their lives together while Monica was young. The simple fact of the matter remains, that there is really a "Muriel", and I really can submit no better explanation as to how her name was echoing in my mind that morning.
As
if this alone wasn't enough in the way of validation or proof, there was
more yet to come. Many months later, we learned that "Muriel's husband",
a long standing "doubter" had been converted to believing in animal communication.
When he heard the above story behind the music, in particular with respect
to the time of day and the title for the song, he found the correlation
with real world events several years past to be just a little too much
for any other explanation. It seems that Muriel and Monica, who were very
close during their years together, would wake up early each morning (often
around 5:30 A.M.) and talk a walk, and they would start the day together
by watching, the sunrise.
